Excursion - Post-conference tour –  Apr. 26

Okuizumo area, the landscapes of the Japanese heart
Feel nature and culture in the Japanese back-country !!

Optional Tour on Fri. 26 April

Participants must register separately from the symposium registration (Tour Fee: 7,000 JPY per person(tax included)).

***You can register for this tour at the reception desk in April. 21 and 22.


We will start this tour at 8:30 from JR Matsue Sation (the tourist bus stop is close to the SOUTH entrance of the station).

Place to visit
1.    Oni no Shita Burui, a large gorge stretching approximately 2.3 km (Une, Minari Okuizumo-cho, Nita-gun): The natural habitat of Rhododendrons or native azaleas is found in the valley. We will take a hike on recreation trails along the river.  https://www.kankou-shimane.com/en/destinations/9285

** The convener Prof. Kobayashi will guide you on this hike for wild ornamental plant observation. We may see naturally growing plant species as below;

3.  Mochi pounding in the traditional way (Mochitsuki) and Lunch of mochi in local styleOkuizumo-cho is one of the famous production areas of rice in Japan. We will make tasty fresh rice cakes using a big mallet at an old fold house. Country-cooking lunch will be provided by WOTZ2024 organizer.

** The members who will board a plane to Tokyo or Osaka may get off at Izumo-Airport (IZO). The members who will use Yonago Airport (YGJ) need to go to JR Matsue Sation and take a shuttle bus to YGJ from Matsue.

** Adachi Museum of Art will mercifully provide a special occasion for interviewing the gardener during this visit for WOTZ2024.

   Course A will return to JR Matsue Sation around 5:30 p.m. via Yonago Airport (YGJ). The members who will board a plane to Tokyo (Haneda, HND) may get off at YGJ. The members who will use Izumo Airport (IZO) need to go to JR Matsue Sation and take a shuttle bus to IZO from Matsue.

1.    Production farmers of potted Hydrangea in the Izumo Plain

-- Course B' (Hydrangea workshop) --
Destinations
1.    Production farmers of potted Hydrangea in the Izumo Plain

2.    Shimane Prefectural Agricultural Technology Center

* We will serve a Shokado-style Compartment Bento (Japanese traditional lunch box).

  Course B' is a branching from Course B. This course is a kind of workshop specialized in Hydrangea research at Shimane Prefectural Agricultural Technology Center. The maximum group size for the Course B’ is 15 persons. We may rearrange this course based on the number of requests.   Course B and B' will rejoin and return to JR Matsue Station via Izumo Airport (IZO) around 5:30 p.m. The members who will board a plane to Tokyo may get off at IZO. The members who will use Yonago Airport (YGJ) need to go to JR Matsue Sation and take a shuttle bus to YGJ from Matsue.

 

Technical Visit I  - Apr. 23

   We will visit Daikon-jima Island located in the middle of the Nakaumi Lagoon. It takes about 30 minutes from Matsue Terrsa (symposium venue) by bus. https://www.japan.travel/en/spot/2307

Yushien Garden is a Japanese garden with 250 types of tree peonies.
A commemorative group photo will be taken on the terrace in the garden.
The Gala Dinner will be held in a Japanese restaurant in the garden.
We will escort participants back to JR Matsue Station after the dinner.

A banquet of the symposium is scheduled on Tue. 23 evening following Technical Visit 1. The restaurant ”Momiji" in Yushien Garden is the site of the banquet.
